The Tengboche monastery (3,867m) anchors the Khumbu's spiritual geography. Founded in 1916 and rebuilt after fire, it hosts the Mani Rimdu festival each autumn—masked dances that consecrate the valley before winter. Our groups attend puja when schedules align, with donations directed to the monastery's school fund rather than ad-hoc tipping.
Below 4,000m, juniper and rhododendron forests shelter musk deer and impeyan pheasant. Higher zones yield to cushion plants and snow partridge. The Sagarmatha Pollution Control Committee—run by local committees—manages waste on the main corridor; we carry out all non-burnable waste and use filtered water to reduce plastic bottle traffic in Namche.
Teahouse trekking distributes income directly to Sherpa families. We contract lodges vetted for fair porter rooms, fuel-efficient kitchens, and solar supplement power. A portion of each booking funds Khumbu porter gear grants through our Kathmandu partner NGO.
