The 2015 earthquake triggered an avalanche that buried the original Langtang village. Survivors rebuilt on safer ground, and tourism income has been central to recovery. Staying in family-run lodges here is one of the most direct ways to support the valley.
Kyanjin's cheese factory was established in the 1950s with Swiss support. Yak and nak herders still bring milk down from summer pastures; the hard cheese is sold along the trail and in Kathmandu.
The temperate forests below Langtang village are among Nepal's best red panda habitats. Community forest guardians monitor populations; quiet early-morning walks give the best chance of a sighting.
