Tansen was once the capital of the Palpa kingdom, later a key trading town. Its cobbled lanes, carved windows, and pagoda temples reflect the Newar merchants who settled here from the Kathmandu valley.

Dhaka Weaving
Palpa is famous for dhaka, the colorful geometric cloth used for the traditional Nepali topi hat. Small workshops still weave on hand looms; buying directly supports local weavers.
Rani Mahal
Built in 1893 by General Khadga Shumsher Rana in memory of his wife, Rani Mahal combines European and Mughal architecture on a cliff above the Kali Gandaki.
