Place & people

Cultural & regional context

The Chure Hills

The Chure (Siwalik) range is Nepal's youngest and most fragile mountain belt. Its forests store groundwater for the Terai plains below, and the national Chure conservation programme works with villages on reforestation and erosion control.

Parsa's Wildlife

Parsa National Park adjoins Chitwan and forms part of a continuous tiger corridor. Walks focus on birds, deer, and tracks. Naturalists follow strict safety rules, and walking routes stay in the buffer zone.

Tharu Communities

The Tharu are the indigenous people of the Terai, known for their mud-plastered homes decorated with relief art and a deep knowledge of forest medicine.
